Mozart at the movies: a soundtrack of the most famous films in the world

Mozart's music has radically contributed to the making of many films, and not only ... Let's see which ones.

  • AMADEUS (1984): the works of the famous composer could not miss a role in his biography!
  • TRADING PLACES (1983): among the many songs that form part of the soundtrack of the movie, there is one taken from Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” (“The Marriage of Figaro”)
  • CLOSER (2004): a film with Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Jude Law and Natalie Portman. Here we can find some extracts of the opera “Così fan tutte” (“Women are like that”).
  • THE TRUMAN SHOW (1998): one of the best movies with Jim Carrey. The Piano Sonata No 11 in A major, K. 331 appears in the soundtrack.
  • EYES WIDE SHUT (1993): Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are in the cast of this movie, which explores the complexity of the human mind, outstandingly directed by Stanley Kubrick. The Mozart Requiem for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, K. 626 is part of the soundtrack.

Mozart’s music also appears in the following films:

  • PHILADELPHIA (1993)
  • MISSION IMPOSSIBLE (1996)
  • OUT OF AFRICA (1985)
  • STAR TREK: INSURRECTION (1998)
  • A BEAUTIFUL MIND (2001)

An absolute genius, who manages to survive still today through different channels, such as cinema, even though they are so distant from his time.

After all, being extraordinary has always been a distinctive feature of Mozart’s life.

In April 1770, a fourteen-year-old Mozart lived in Rome with his father Leopold, where he listened to the Miserere by Gregorio Allegri, played in the Sistine Chapel.

It was absolutely forbidden to read or copy the score, but as soon as he came back home, the young Mozart wrote it down thanks to his prodigious memory, with very few mistakes.
