This year, in anticipation of the 100th edition, the Opera Festival 2022 finally return to large productions in the setting of one of the most remarkable opera house in the world, the Arena di Verona. The 99th edition of the Opera Festival is scheduled from 17 June to 4 September 2022 with a program full of events, 46 evenings with 5 opera productions and 3 special events.

The Festival will open with a spectacular and historical restitution: it is Carmen by Georges Bizet in the legendary production that was Franco Zeffirelli's Arena debut in 1995, proposed for 9 exceptional evenings.

Aida by Giuseppe Verdi is the second title of the Festival, the queen opera of the Arena since the first edition in 1913 which also has the honor of being staged in the final evening. Aida is proposed in the classic Ancient Egypt setting always conceived by Franco Zeffirelli, from 18 June on 11 dates.

Nabucco, another Verdi's masterpiece, will be the third opera to be staged with an impressive and cinematic setting inspired by the Italian Risorgimento. Scheduled for 8 performances from 25 June, Nabucco will be directed by Arnaud Bernard.

The most popular love story of opera returns on 2 July for 8 performances in the wonderful production created for the 2019 Festival by Franco Zeffirelli. Verdi's La Traviata is an unmissable event of the 2022.

Puccini's Turandot will be the last debut of the Festival on stage for 7 performances starting from 4 August. Again the magnificent production by maestro Franco Zeffirelli, with the splendid costumes of Academy Award winner Emi Wada.

The 99th Festival is also enriched with three unique special events: a real dance celebration in all its forms Roberto Bolle and Friends, on 20 July; the symphonic and choral concert of the Carmina Burana on 12 August, in homage to Ezio Bosso; the return of the acclaimed Plácido Domingo on 25 August, in the Domingo gala in Verdi Opera Night.
